Little Penguin's Feeling Sick by Leigha Marina is a song about Bebo, a little penguin who forgets to wash his hands after playing outside. When he feels sick, Mommy Penguin cares for him, and Doctor Penguin visits to teach him about keeping his hands clean. Bebo learns his lesson and shares it with his friends. With easy words and a tune children can sing along to, the song reminds them to wash their hands throughout the day.

🎵 Song Lyrics

Little penguin was playing
Outside touching everything
Snowy rocks and fishy fins
Then he wiped his nose and chin

Little penguin’s feeling sick
Washing hands he did forget
So wash your hands keep them clean
You’ll keep away the germs you’ll see

Little penguin’s in his bed
Sick from stomach to head
Still he didn’t wash his hands
Guess he didn’t understand

Little penguin’s feeling sick
Washing hands he did forget
So wash your hands keep them clean
You’ll keep away the germs you’ll see

Doctor said now listen here
Germs are hiding far and near
Wash your hands throughout the day
Then your sneeze will go away

Little penguin’s feeling sick
Washing hands he did forget
So wash your hands keep them clean
You’ll keep away the germs you’ll see

Little penguin won’t forget
To wash his hands he’ll never quit
Now he tells his penguin friends
Wash your hands don’t let the germs win

About This Song

Bebo spends his day playing beside the lake, touching snowy rocks and fishy fins. Then he wipes his nose and chin without washing his hands. The story moves from outdoor play to a day in bed, with Mommy Penguin beside him and Doctor Penguin coming to visit.

Little Penguin's Feeling Sick uses a familiar character and a repeated chorus to introduce a simple habit. By the end, Bebo goes from forgetting to wash his hands to reminding his friends to keep theirs clean.

The cartoon also gives children a chance to see Bebo being cared for when he feels unwell. His warm blanket, Mommy’s company, and the doctor’s visit are useful details to talk about alongside the song’s message about germs.

A Reminder After Playtime

Use Bebo’s story to start a conversation when your child comes inside after playing. Ask what he touched by the lake and what he forgot to do afterward.

The chorus can become a familiar reminder to head to the sink. Keep the focus on practicing a helpful habit rather than blaming Bebo for getting sick. Washing hands is about helping keep germs away, not promising that we will never feel unwell.
