🎵 Song Lyrics

Once a penguin was so sad
Other birds could fly up high
He tried and tried but couldn’t rise
His feet couldn’t leave the ground

Sky is too high for me to touch
Wings to fly not mine
Why have wings when they can't make me fly

Hey some wings aren’t meant to fly
Some wings are meant to glide
Other wings are meant to run
Or to protect a little one

There’s no better there’s no worse
There’s just different in the world
No one’s first and no one’s last
All together we can shine
Don't you hesitate to find
Countless treasures lie inside

Don’t you worry penguin
You are special like all beings
Like piñatas filled with sweets
Your heart keeps all kinds of skills

Everyone has their own gifts
One of mine is diving deep super deep
Ice and snow my perfect match
Pirouettes and sliding fast

Sky is too high for you to touch
But cold water’s not
Wings can do so much
And wings are mine to rock
Wings can do so much
Gifts are ours to rock

There’s no better there’s no worse
There’s just different in the world
No one’s first and no one’s last
All together we can shine
Don't you hesitate to find
Countless treasures lie inside

Oh don’t you worry penguin
You are special like all beings
Like piñatas filled with sweets
Your heart keeps all kinds of skills

About This Song

Bebo stands on floating ice and watches birds fly overhead. He tries to join them, but his feet never leave the ground. Seeing what other birds can do makes him wonder why he has wings at all.

His friends help him see things differently. Instead of asking him to try harder at flying, they remind him that wings can serve different purposes. Bebo begins to notice his own gifts, from diving deep in cold water to turning and sliding across the ice.

Why Penguins Don't Fly does not put one talent above another. The words “There’s no better there’s no worse” bring the story back to accepting differences, without turning them into a contest.

Talking About Our Own Gifts

After listening, ask your child what Bebo learned about himself. Then take turns naming something each of you enjoys doing. It might be drawing, dancing, building, or helping someone.

You can also talk about something your child wishes they could do. Bebo’s story leaves room for that disappointment while reminding children that one difficult thing does not define who they are.
