🎵 Song Lyrics

When the lights turn off
We don't like to watch
Cause we don't know
What's going on
When the lights are off

It's ok to be afraid
Of the dark
Just remember
Everything's the same
As when there's light

There's no monster next to us
And if there's a chance
I've been told they are great friends
Hugs are furry and the best

When the lights turn off
We don't like to watch
Cause we don't know
What's going on
When the lights are off

It's ok to be afraid
Of the dark
Just remember
Everything's the same
As when there's light

There is no ghost next to us
And if there's a chance
I've been told they like to play
Shadow puppets with their hands

Oh all the lights in our house
Need sleeping just like us
Everything will be alright
Whether in the dark or light

About This Song

Afraid of the Dark is a sweet and upbeat song about Bebo the penguin learning that there is nothing to fear when the lights go out. Bebo is playing with his colorful ball in his bedroom, next to his toy dinosaur, robot and teddy bear. Suddenly, the lights turn off and the room goes dark. Bebo does not like it, because he cannot see what is going on.

In the dark, his toys look big and scary. Mommy Penguin and Daddy Penguin hurry into the room, and Mommy Penguin flips the light switch back on. Now Bebo sees that everything is the same as when there was light. It is okay to be afraid of the dark. There are no monsters in his room, and if there were, their hugs would be furry and the best. Bebo hugs his teddy bear and his mommy and daddy.

Later, Bebo is tucked into bed, and in the dark he thinks he sees ghosts floating around his room. There are no ghosts, and if there were, they would just want to play shadow puppets with their hands. Mommy Penguin turns on the light again, and Bebo smiles.

All the lights in the house need sleep, just like Bebo. When the room goes dark again, Bebo snuggles under his blanket and falls asleep.
